The Department of History of Ukraine supported Academic Integrity Week

The Department of History of Ukraine of SUNPU joined the Week of Academic Integrity, which annually unites the university community around common values - honesty, responsibility and respect for intellectual work. This year, the department has prepared a rich program of events that were held with the participation of students of the Faculty of History and Philology.

The week began with a bright flash mob "Waves of Integrity", which became a true symbol of the unity of the student and teaching community. The event is designed to remind that academic integrity is not only a formal requirement, but also the basis of true knowledge and professional reputation. The flash mob brought together many participants - students and teachers of the Faculty of History and Philology.

For bachelors and masters of specialties A4 Secondary Education, historians and philologists, and postgraduate students of specialty B9 (history and archaeology), a round table "Dimensions of integrity in life and career" was held under the leadership of DPh, assistant professor of the Department of History of Ukraine V. I. Vodko. The lecturer drew attention to the issue of imitation of science, which seems to be one of the key problems of modern Ukrainian humanities. Using the example of a recent case - how a professor of the Kyiv School of Economics Ihor Serdyuk published a historical article about a completely fictional country in one of the Ukrainian professional journals, Doctor of Philosophy Vodko explained how the system of commercial predatory journals works and why it is harmful both for science as a whole and for the career of each individual researcher.

The problems of plagiarism, the features of the correct and incorrect use of Artificial Intelligence in scientific research, and the main challenges of scientific ethics regarding co-authors and respondents were also analyzed.

The participants had the opportunity to talk about how honesty and integrity affect not only their studies, but also their further professional development. The lively discussion showed that the students are deeply aware of the importance of these values and are ready to defend them in everyday life.

A separate event of the week was the lecture "Ukraine for Integrity", which was given by D. O. Rodidyal, an intern at the Department of History of Ukraine. In her speech, she focused on the role of academic integrity in the formation of civic consciousness and the development of an open and responsible society. The students of I-III study levels were given the opportunity to take a new look at the connection between personal integrity and social changes in Ukraine.

The final events of the week were the curatorial hours “Integrity in Action”, which were held by curators in academic groups of 1st – 4th study years. It was this format that allowed us to bring the topic closer to each student, discuss real situations and together find answers to difficult questions that young people face in their studies and lives.

The Department of Ukrainian History is sincerely grateful to all teachers, curators and students who took an active part in the events of the Integrity Week. We are convinced that the culture of academic integrity is formed not only through rules and requirements, but primarily through lively dialogue, personal example and shared values. That is why such initiatives are an important part of university life – and the Department of Ukrainian History will continue to support them with sincere enthusiasm.
